I’m conflicted with autumn/winter here in Australia. I absolutely hate the cold, but fashion for the new cooler season definitely excites me.
As the weather begins to cool, now is the perfect time to refresh your winter wardrobe. To celebrate the ‘Feels like Winter’ campaign across Vicinity Centres, I’ve been enlisted to share my must-have winter essentials, so I headed down to my closest shopping centre, The Glen, to shop up a storm!
For me, there are eight pieces, every winter wardrobe must contain. Here in part one of Friend in Fashion’s winter essentials I will showcase four of my favourite pieces and how best to wear them.
FAUX FUR
Winter and fur (faux naturally), go hand in hand. Fur adds great texture and dimension to an outfit, not to mention warmth. I absolutely love this new arrival coat from Target. It’s chic and perfectly priced at under $100.
Styling Tip
A cropped style coat, like this one, is a great shape to accentuate statement trousers, and winter dresses. Opt for cropped styles to dress up the perfect evening look.

SKINNY JEANS
A wardrobe essential, the skinny jean is perfect for any occasion, casual or dressy. Don’t overlook this season’s denim ‘jegging’, like these from Just Jeans. This is a great style for layering under long dresses, and will help you achieve the perfect ‘tuck’ into boots!
Styling Tip
Try indigo blue shades of denim, to elevate a traditionally darker denim winter wardrobe of black and grey.

TURTLE NECK
A classic shape, the turtle neck is a great wardrobe addition for the cooler months. I found this short-sleeve knit style from Target, which is the perfect weight to layer under coats and jackets.
Styling Tip
Fill your wardrobe with great staple tops, like this one in black, grey and white. These pieces will always be a great base that you can layer easily.

ANKLE BOOT
One of the most versatile styles of shoe, treat yourself to a new pair of ankle boots for the season ahead. I absolutely love these boots from Wittner, wear them over denim, tucked over tights or add a touch of biker-chic to a dress.
Styling Tip
Protect your suede boots with a waterproof spray to maximise wear throughout winter.
