This season, I’m all about neutral tones – steering clear of classic black. I think there is something timeless and elegant about winter whites, and a classic camel coat is the perfect accompaniment to any winter wardrobe.

Winter wear for me is all about experimenting with different fabrics and silhouettes to create a really strong-layered look.

Try layering cabled knitwear - with textures like wool, denim and leather to create the perfect look for any occasion – casual or formal. For a bold, fashion forward look, experiment with layering the same or similar colours, like this white cable knit and white skirt.

As the weather here cools down in Melbourne, it's time to whip out the layers.

Sweaters, coats, hats are all on the playing cards, until another tropical oasis calls my name.

I'm not one for winter, but there is something inherently chic about dressing in layers.

The temperature is dropping, as we quickly approach what's set to be a very chilly Australian winter.

During the week, I again teamed up with good friend and photographic extraordinaire, Sabine, to capture my latest cosy winter acquisition.

Away with the sundresses, silk, shorts and shirts, it's now all about chunky knitwear, hats and coats.

If you missed my last post, I'm thrilled to feature in Toni & Guy's latest campaign - Blogged & Bound. You can find out more about the campaign and Friend in Fashion, in the short film created here.

Even though we are heading into the warmer months here in the Southern Hemisphere (which I'm VERY excited about), I couldn't help but post the latest 'boy vs girl' look book from one of my favourites, FREE PEOPLE.

Boyfriend jeans and chunky knits, my perfect Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

Tres chic!

Dear friends,

As I've blogged before, there is something particularly special about personalised jewellery.

A short while ago, I was lucky enough to be gifted this lovely charm necklace from the team at My Name Necklace, which I had inscribed with the initials of me and my very special other half. If you fancy one of your own, save 8% with shopping code 'friendinfashion'.

If you follow Friend in Fashion on facebook, or twitter, you’d know that I am in the running to become the Nokia/ Elle Magazine Style Correspondent for New York Fashion Week.

Big ♥ to everyone who has already 'liked' my entry. If you haven't yet, there is still time, so get 'liking'.

If you do, let me know so that I can show you some ♥ right back!

Aussie label Minkpink have done it again with this incredible poncho!

I'm definitely a summer girl, but winter does have its perks, and throwing on a comfy poncho, with some boyfriend jeans and boots is definitely one of them.

A short while back, I hinted about a new fashion project that I'm working on, there is still a lot more to come, but in the meantime, you can grab a sneak peak at the style collector on facebook and twitter.

I can't wait to share more with you all soon.

Dear friends,

Nothing screams winter to me more than leather!

I'd been on the hunt for the perfect leather skirt for some time now, but wasn't sure if I could pull the look off. That is until I came across this very sweet Alexa A-Line leather skirt, courtesy of the team at Viparo.

The softest leather and perfect cut, along with lovely details including pockets and pleats, Alexa was designed with me in mind.

Dear friends,

Floral prints are always a favourite of mine, especially throughout the winter months, as they add just the perfect splash of colour to dark and dreary days.

I've had a lovely time in Hamilton Island and am now looking forward to a long weekend visit to Sydney with new friends and old.

Dear friends,

The last couple of weeks I've been busy shopping up a storm online.

Allow me to introduce to you, two of my most recent wardrobe acquisitions: this beautiful lace-up silk tunic and incredible William Rast double zip platform boots.

This very special tunic, features so many lovely details from the Nordic-inspired moose print, to shoulder cut-outs, to the leather lace-up front and is created by the Australian label Guanabana.

I picked this up from the online store, A Little Left of Centre, which is the go to spot for original Australian design.

The boots, from another of my online favourites, DJ Premium, are the most perfect soft brown leather and despite sporting a sky-high 5.5" heel, are surprisingly comfortable. My ultimate winter boot!

Crushed velvet and knee-high socks, dare I suggest a resurgence in 90's fashion? Either way, this lovely little number has treated me well over the last few chilly weeks in Melbourne.

Also picked up this sweet little ring from my friends over on the West Coast (of Australia), Martini + Coz. Their beautiful range of accessories and handbags are lovingly created for the modern woman with a penchant for vintage chic - a label close to my heart (excuse the pun).

Dear friends,

There is nothing quite like being a tourist in your own backyard.

This weekend I hit the road, to explore the beautiful coast-line of my new adopted city. A lovely break with great surf, delicious wine and seafood, spectacular scenery and friendly locals - bliss.

Before I headed off, I received these rings from my friend (and fellow blogger), the lovely Katie of Be Inspired. I've become particularly fond of this very sweet peace ring, which I've been wearing with pretty much everything!

Finally, love, kisses and the warmest wishes to my mother on this mothers day.
An amazing woman and my best friend.

Fashion flashback

Digging through my wardrobe over the weekend, I stumbled across this cute pair of vintage culottes I remember my mum picking up for me at least 15 years ago! Firstly I was thrilled that they still fit me, and secondly I had to laugh, thinking back at how much I loathed wearing these when I was younger!

Inspired lately by 50’s and 60’s fashion, I’ve teamed the culottes with a ruffled shirt, cardigan and bow which compliment the spotty print.

On a side note, this time next week I’ll be boarding a plane bound for overseas (so excited – can’t wait!), so apologies in advance, this will be the last outfit post for a couple of weeks, but no doubt I’ll pick up lots of great overseas bargains to share upon my return.

Baby it's cold outside

I was ecstatic when I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon raiding my mother’s wardrobe. Amongst the gems was this gorgeous box pleat dress. I love the pleating in the skirt, drop waist, brocade inspired print and of course the colours. Teaming with a green coat makes for a vivid alternative to traditional monochrome winter staples - thanks mum!
