Georgia Annabelle dress / Pink Coat from Hong Kong / Chanel Wallet On Chain / by jasmin jewellery

A short while ago, while tumbling around instagram, I came across this beautiful mesh ball dress, by graduate Sydney designer, Georgia Annabelle.

This backless dress, is definitely head-turner, and was the perfect outfit option for the Melbourne Fashion Festival closing event celebration.

If you've been following my instagram (@friendinfashion), you would have noticed me wearing A LOT of white lately. I think there is something so minimal and chic about dressing in one colour, and having darker hair and features, I love the contrast of wearing all-white.

I also love statement dressing, and this incredible detailed dress, by my good friend, French designer, Magali Pascal has to be one of my all time favourites.

This is the second part of my collaboration with Magali Pascal, to celebrate the arrival of by jasmin fine jewellery (my jewellery label) in Magali Pascal stores across Bali.

Over the festive season, I had the opportunity to holiday in beautiful Bali.

As always, a trip to Bali isn't complete without a visit to one of my favourite boutique hotels, The Bale, which is where I felt it fitting to dress up and run-around in this gorgeous dress.

The Bale, is tucked away in gorgeous Nusa Dua - just a short drive from Denpasar airport, and is my favourite place to stay when in this part of Bali. An absolutely stunning backdrop, to showcase, what is now my second favourite dress (second only to my wedding dress!)

Delicate sequinned bodice, layer upon layer of ombre skirting, and all topped off with the perfect bow. What's not to love.

This dress was my final outfit choice to ring in the New Year.

WHAT TO WEAR TO THE POLO

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Polo as a guest of Tempus Two Wines...

Before an event, I ensure that I have two or three outfit options lined up, and then the morning of, I make my final decision.

My choice for the Polo this year, was an all white ensemble, which to me, sums up what the Polo is all about - elegance.

Together with my other half, we enjoyed a lovely event, sipping on Tempus Two bubbles and indulging in an absolutely delicious feast of local produce.

I'm told by people who ought to know, the actual polo match, too was a treat.

I'm wearing: Misha Collection dress, My Red Lippy hat, MNO.logie clutch, Tibi blazer

ON FILM | 2014 WHAT A RIDE...

2014 for me was a year filled with extreme highs, and extreme lows.

On the one had, I had the good fortune of travelling the world, and on the other, this was the year that I experienced my first significant loss.

Now more so than ever, am I aware of just how beautiful and volatile life can be. And it is for this reason, that the philosophy of, living each day to its fullest (as cliche as it sounds) underpins by being and existence.

As my father would always say - be the kind of person who leaves a positive mark on the world.

My goal for 2015 is to explore more of this incredible world and give back in which ever way I can. I will focus on my health and well-being.
I want to make the most of each day and make each day count.

I am thankful beyond words for the opportunities and experiences I've enjoyed and the people I've met along the way - who have each left their mark on my journey.

But most of all, I owe thanks to YOU, for reading this post and my blog.

For now, I choose to reflect on the positive, highlighting some of my favourite adventures of 2014. From walking the red carpet in LA, alongside Leonardo Di Caprio, to snorkelling the beautiful depths of the Maldives, to experiencing the most terrifying and exhilarating bungee jump off Auckland Bridge.

I leave you with the thought 'blessed are the curious for they shall have the adventures'.

Happy new year to all of my gorgeous readers, and here's to a prosperous 2015.

I'm convinced I was Parisian in a past life

There is something incredible about France - the home of fashion, incredible food and drink, and of course history. I love the culture and the people and always have the best time when I visit.

The Champs Elysees, Love Lock Bridge, Eiffel Tower, Jardine De Tuileries…CHANEL! I mean what's not to love about oui oui pari!

So on a not so special day I decided to re-live my very first Chambord experience, the memories of that first sip surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of a Parisian street in Summer.

Sometimes when I'm craving some French fabulousness, I like to dash around Melbourne, dressed in my favourite brenton stripes. Who says you have to be in Paris to live like a Parisian.

Around every corner, Melbourne is filled with little french surprises, so my adventure isn't too much of a stretch. Bonjour to the barista, merci to the market stall holder, au revoir to the assistant.

Pretending for a day can be just as fun!

People watching over a croissant and a coffee, a visit to the flower markets, a spot of shopping, naturally Chanel and Celine are at the top my list, and of course a cheeky Chambord Royale - (a splash of the delightfully French Chambord Black Raspberry liqueur, mixed with my favourite French champers) to top off the afternoon.

A visit to Madame Brussels, a French-inspired rooftop favourite of mine is the place to be. Parasoles, rooftop views and a fanciful stroll down a fruity garden path! Once you visit you'll understand what I mean.

Just a few of my favourite french things whenever I feel like it – #becausenoreason.

Strictly black and white, today is Derby Day in Melbourne.

I write this jet-lagged from a hotel in Hong Kong, where my flight schedule sadly hasn't afforded me the opportunity to return to Melbourne in time to celebrate this always fashionable event.

To me, races is all about keeping true to your style, but with that little extra something. I'm beyond thrilled to have had the opportunity to have teamed up with my favourite, The Outnet, and to share with you my Derby Day fashion.

It's all about classic shillouetes, with a modern twist.

Not normally a body-con fan, this Hervé Léger had definitely changed my stance - the scallop detailing and mini-length is the perfect statement white ensemble for the brave, and this Simone Rocha ball gown, truly is what dreams are made of.

With such statement fashion, I've opted for more subdued head-wear. This Lady of Leisure lace crown adds the perfect touch of elegance, and an embellished hair pin from my friends at Fiel Sol, along with a little netting creates a more dramatic look.

Given that I will be only celebrating Derby Day in spirit only, I think I definitely have the perfect opportunity to whip out one of these looks for Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, which I definitely will be in town to celebrate.

Which look is your favourite?

FRIEND IN FASHION’S GUIDE TO SPRING RACING

Chanel Wallet on Chain | Prada heels

I’ll begin this post by declaring my love of any opportunity to dress up for an occasion.

The Spring Racing Carnival is in full swing in Melbourne, a time of year when the streets and courses are laden with elegantly dressed ladies and dapper gents.

It is this occasion; I felt it obligatory to share with you my guide to staying fabulously sophisticated this race season.
_________________________________________________________

STEP 1 : DRESS THE PART

This is the time of year to go all out with your wardrobe selections – the opportunity to feature that one-wear statement dress. You know that dress that you fell in love with at first sight, but would never buy because it isn’t a practical wardrobe addition.

It is my opinion that the Spring Racing wardrobe philosophy should be IF YOU LIKE IT, DO IT: 'BECAUSE NO REASON'. Throw restraint out the window and experiment with beautiful prints and colour. Sure you may only wear the dress once, but you will turn heads, and that’s half the fun.

When it comes to your race wardrobe - BE BRAVE, BE BOLD.

STEP 2 : MARVELLOUS MILLINERY MAKETH THE (WO)MAN

Millinery, more than just an accessory when it comes to the races, and equally as important a decision as your fashion selections. The opportunity to express your own individual sense of style and attitude.

I love to accentuate and exaggerate the details of an outfit with my millinery selections. For example, if my outfit is all about a print, I love to feature complimentary colours in my headwear. Likewise if my outfit is all about bold colour, I opt for contrasting bold colours with my millinery.

My milliner of choice - LADY OF LEISURE.
My approach to millinery – BE ADVENTUROUS, BE DARING.

STEP 3 : THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAIL

The right accessories will make or break your time at the races.

You’ll be on your feet most of the day, so it’s important to nurture what will be propping you up all day - party feet are always a must.

When it comes to your shoe of choice – I’d avoid wearing a pair of shoes that are straight out of the box. If you have purchased new shoes for the races (never a bad excuse for new shoes in my book), wear them around the house for as long as possible before you hit the racecourse – your feet will thank you!

Your bag selection is equally as important. MY TIP – opt for a clutch or purse that has a shoulder strap. This will ensure that your bag is attached to you all day (no risk of leaving it behind somewhere), and will also free up your hands for that glass of something special, or that selfie with your girlfriends.

STEP 4 : DRINK RESPONSIBLY

The races are a great opportunity to celebrate, and naturally the beverage selection will be plentiful. A cocktail of  CHAMBORD AND CHAMPAGNE is my race-day drink of choice. It is on this note that I emphasise the importance of decorum at the races. Drink, have fun, but remember the importance of staying hydrated. This will ensure that your race-day fun is prolonged and you’ll remain as fresh as a daisy for the after party and the after, after party to follow.

TO SUMMARISE

Spring Racing is the perfect excuse to dress up, defy expectations and celebrate in style.

The Greek Islands - one of my favourite places on earth.

I'd visited Santorini before, but this trip was my first visit to the islands of Mykonos and Naxos.

Next, i'll post all my Greek Island travel tips, but I couldn't wait to share with you this beautiful dress, of local Greek label, Lucky Pig

I first came across Lucky Pig, in a great little boutique in Mykonos Town - Sotris. I tried it on, drawn in by the beautiful appliqué and immediately had to have it.

One of my favourite parts of travelling has to be uncovering beautiful local brands and designers, which upon my return home, remind me of the beautiful memories I've experienced in any particular part of the world.

My wardrobe is more and more starting to reflect the places I've visited and is a constant reminder of the amazing things I've been fortunate to have seen and people I've met.

SOHO

I've been here in New York for a bit over 3 weeks now and what an adventure it has  been.

To me, this city that never sleeps feels like the centre of the world. Always something exciting happening and always something new on the horizon. Amazing fashion, food and company.

I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity while here to collaborate with some amazing stylists and photographers on a series of projects, which I look forward to sharing with you shortly. Until then - you can get all the sneak peeks over on instagram @friendinfashion.

For now, a quick outfit snapped while running errands in Soho.

NYFW STREET STYLE PART II

Here is a look at my outfit for day 2 of NYFW, snapped running between shows.

I'm a big fan of slogan tees, and Zoe Karssen is always a favourite of mine - as you can see here in this earlier blog post.

During fashion week, I had quite a few questions about this skirt, which is one I designed a short while ago while travelling through Bali.

A leather skirt is such a versatile piece, and has served me well through my travels.

ASOS HOLIDAY STYLE CHALLENGE

When I was in London, I had the opportunity of teaming up with ASOS and ASOS Fashion Finder to style my key holiday pieces for the season.

I was given five pieces - a swimsuit, maxi dress, bolero, pinafore and backpack and then left to style my own key holiday looks. I love each of the looks but have to say the monochrome pinafore has to be my favourite outfit - which one is yours?

You can also check out the behind the scenes video of my ASOS shoot HERE

I'm now in off exploring the South of France as part of a six month travel junket around the world.

Sometimes ghastly, most times amazing. You got it, leopard print.

I'm not one to shy away from all kinds of prints, but lately, I can't seem to steer clear of leopard.

In part due to this beyond-words incredible, Blumarine leopard print trench coat.

Six days and counting, until I head off overseas for a six month adventure, to travel the world.
