OUI OUI PARIS

The city of love and style, J'aime Paris!

If you're following me on instagram, or snapchat (@friendinfashion), you would have seen my latest adventure from one of my favourite cities in the world, Paris!

France for me, naturally optimises style, so my dress code is simple - black, white, stripes and Chanel of course.

I'm in town with Veuve Clicquot, to celebrate their newest product Rich (trust me - it's amazing!), which, luckily for me, means a gorgeous visit to the Champagne region of France (Reims), as well as some fun in Paris.

More on this soon...

TREND ALERT | NORMCORE

So what is the 'normcore' trend really all about anyway?...

For my next instalment of Westfield AW15 #FashionObsessions, I'm sharing one of my favourite trends of the moment - normcore.

Think boy meets girl - unisex, casual dressing at its finest.

For me, to embrace this trend I opt for my favourite pair of jeans, a classic white tee and some trainers - a street-style must.

Such a simple trend to recreate yourself, comfortable and so easy to wear.

I'm convinced I was Parisian in a past life

There is something incredible about France - the home of fashion, incredible food and drink, and of course history. I love the culture and the people and always have the best time when I visit.

The Champs Elysees, Love Lock Bridge, Eiffel Tower, Jardine De Tuileries…CHANEL! I mean what's not to love about oui oui pari!

So on a not so special day I decided to re-live my very first Chambord experience, the memories of that first sip surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of a Parisian street in Summer.

Sometimes when I'm craving some French fabulousness, I like to dash around Melbourne, dressed in my favourite brenton stripes. Who says you have to be in Paris to live like a Parisian.

Around every corner, Melbourne is filled with little french surprises, so my adventure isn't too much of a stretch. Bonjour to the barista, merci to the market stall holder, au revoir to the assistant.

Pretending for a day can be just as fun!

People watching over a croissant and a coffee, a visit to the flower markets, a spot of shopping, naturally Chanel and Celine are at the top my list, and of course a cheeky Chambord Royale - (a splash of the delightfully French Chambord Black Raspberry liqueur, mixed with my favourite French champers) to top off the afternoon.

A visit to Madame Brussels, a French-inspired rooftop favourite of mine is the place to be. Parasoles, rooftop views and a fanciful stroll down a fruity garden path! Once you visit you'll understand what I mean.

Just a few of my favourite french things whenever I feel like it – #becausenoreason.

Strictly black and white, today is Derby Day in Melbourne.

I write this jet-lagged from a hotel in Hong Kong, where my flight schedule sadly hasn't afforded me the opportunity to return to Melbourne in time to celebrate this always fashionable event.

To me, races is all about keeping true to your style, but with that little extra something. I'm beyond thrilled to have had the opportunity to have teamed up with my favourite, The Outnet, and to share with you my Derby Day fashion.

It's all about classic shillouetes, with a modern twist.

Not normally a body-con fan, this Hervé Léger had definitely changed my stance - the scallop detailing and mini-length is the perfect statement white ensemble for the brave, and this Simone Rocha ball gown, truly is what dreams are made of.

With such statement fashion, I've opted for more subdued head-wear. This Lady of Leisure lace crown adds the perfect touch of elegance, and an embellished hair pin from my friends at Fiel Sol, along with a little netting creates a more dramatic look.

Given that I will be only celebrating Derby Day in spirit only, I think I definitely have the perfect opportunity to whip out one of these looks for Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, which I definitely will be in town to celebrate.

In other news, I'm off to New Zealand this week - this will be my first visit to NZ and I can't wait! I may even bungee jump if I can muster up the courage!

I found these unpublished photos, from my recent trip to TOKYO.

This was my first trip to Japan in the summer time, and I can tell you it was scorching.

In the past I have visited the country in winter - taking advantage of the amazing snow on offer, so for some reason, I had the perception that summer in Tokyo would be a lot more mild.

Boy was I wrong…crop tops, and cotton skirts, cool showers and air conditioning got me through steamy TOKYO summer afternoons...

I found this outfit post from a couple of months ago, which I never got around to posting. A throw-back to when my hair was a lot blonder.

I'm back to a darker brunette shade now, but looking back on these pictures - I liked the blonde - what do you think? Should I make the return to lighter locks?

Being petit, I have great difficulty finding bustier-style tops which fit me well, so when I tried this Josh Goot style (which fit like a glove), I had to have one in white, as well as black.

I love the form and structure of this top, it works so well with trousers, a pencil skirt or even as a way of dressing up my favourite denim.

Exciting news - one of my US favourites, Nasty Gal is coming to Australia. To coincide with their Aussie online launch, I hand-picked some of my collection favourites to style and snap.

This throw-back-to-the-70s Jumpsuit, is beyond words incredible and looks equally as amazing dressed up with these buckle heels as it does dressed down, with brogues. Chic and most importantly, versatile.

Definitely one to add to my list of travel fashion essentials.

NastyGal.com.AU launches in a couple of weeks - be sure to bookmark this one.

MYER A/W14 FASHION WORKSHOPS

I'm wearing: Toni Maticevski dress, Alex Perry lace-up heels

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of hosting two fashion workshops for retailer Myer.

I was tasked with the role of translating key Autumn Winter trends (as see on the runway), to easy-to-wear, everyday street style.

The key themes I worked with were monochrome, leather, lady in red and winter floral. All set to take centre-stage this A/W season here in Australia.

The best thing I found, when pulling together each look, was that in a multi-brand retailer, like Myer, you have every opportunity to interpret key trends to suit a range of different styles and most importantly budgets.

I love the fact that I can pick up a key designer piece, like a Balmain or Ellery leather jacket, and team it back with a great affordable pair of jeans and a tee, all under one roof. Outfit complete.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the workshops, It was lovely to meet some of my Melbourne readers, and a special thanks to Myer for giving me the chance to share my key season styles.

Recently I was invited by Target to pick my favourites from their new season collection to share with you.

As we inch closer to Autumn/Winter here in Australia, I find myself more and more drawn to a wardrobe of monochrome, which is reflected here in this blog post.

I'm definitely a summer girl, so my A/W wardrobe generally consists of great trans-seasonal pieces like this amazing vest-style dress, or wrap skirt, which I can wear as is, or easily layer with leather jackets, coats, tights and boots for the cooler weather. Versatility is key to my wardrobe.

Three of Something cami, YSL clutch via Reebonz, Balenciaga heels, Zara trousers

As I find myself drawn more and more to classic monochrome, I can't help but focus on key accessories when styling an outfit.

These Balenciaga heels (also seen here), were picked up on my recent visit to Rome and add a subtle splash of colour. I'm also a fan of patent finishes, particularly when it come to accessories, so I could't pass up this perfectly versatile clutch via my friends at Reebonz.

Reebonz is one of my online go-tos when I'm on the hunt for luxury items, and they are offering Friend in Fashion readers, an exclusive $50 voucher when you sign up to their website (here).

Happy shopping!

MONOCHROME

Monochrome Street Style on Friend in Fashion

My first couple of weeks moving back home have been chaotic, between meetings and house inspections, which has meant keeping my style as quick and easy as possible. With this in mind, monochrome is failsafe.

This sports-luxe dress is the perfect to throw on, when I'm on the go, and Vintage Princess have come through with the goods with this beautiful leather carry-all.

STATEMENT PIECES

Mossman peplum jacket / Robina Akiem bubble skirt / Bahagia rings / Claire Aristides bracelet

As I start experimenting more and more with monochrome, to add interest to an outfit, I've also enjoyed styling outfits with different shapes and silhouettes.

Ordinarily I'd team a peplum with a skinny pant or pencil skirt, but I this bubble skirt, from local designer, Robina Akiem, jumped out at me and was too good to resist.

Peplum meet the bubble skirt.

BALI BOUND

Boohoo.com.au top / General Pants shorts / Tony Bianco heels

I post this, as I hurriedly pack the last of my tropical wardrobe for my first visit to Bali.

I've luckily enjoyed many trips to Asia - Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan, as well as living in Vietnam for part of 2010, but surprisingly (especially to most Aussies), I've never visited Bali.

I'm really looking forward to checking out a new city, meeting some locals, savouring delicious Indonesian cuisine, and of course the shopping!

Of course, I welcome any tips, must sees/dos.

Be sure to follow @friendinfashion on instagram for all of the adventure.
