WAYS TO WEAR - NORMCORE

I’ve previously shared my love for ‘normcore’ dressing - unisex, ‘unpretentious’ dressing at it’s finest. Picture 90s throwback, low-key cool, with a splash of athleticism...

'Normcore seeks the freedom that comes with non-exclusivity. It finds liberation in being nothing special, and realises that adaptability leads to belonging. Normcore is a path to a more peaceful life,' states K-Hole in Vogue.

One of the biggest appeals to this trend is really a minimalist approach to fashion. It’s all about bringing things back to basics and not using fashion as a way of determining and highlighting gender.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first one to grab a dress of the rack, but day to day, the appeal of throwing on a pair of boyfriend jeans, a slouchy tee and a pair of trainers definitely reigns supreme.

To master this look, I love to reinvent key styles from my other half's side of the wardrobe or, failing his enthusiasm of me ‘borrowing’ his favourite sweater, a quick shop in the men’s department works a treat.

When approaching normcore, opt for sweaters, that double up as dresses, or the perfect ‘men’s white shirt’, which is one of the most versatile wardrobe investments. Wear it on its own, tucked into denim or tied up with midi skirts or shorts. Instant chic!

THE DRESS OF THE SEASON

There are some dresses that were just meant to be worn and twirled in...

I picked up this knock-out of a dress from ASOS (here) and I wasn't surprised to see that it sold out almost immediately.

There is nothing that frustrates me more than seeing a style I love, only to not be able to buy it.

Unfortunately I can't help you with this exact dress, but I did track down three similar styles that would be perfect for the upcoming spring racing season here in Melbourne, or any event you want to turn heads at.

WHAT TO WEAR - WINTER WHITE

Winter White, all white, Street Style on Friend in Fashion, www.friendinfashion.com.au

Move over black and grey, this season it's all about winter white...

The key to mastering this look, is to experiment with different textures and tones.

Sometimes, I like to mix off-white and white together to get a subtle contrast, but this time I've matched the colour of the knit and skirt, instead introducing some interest to the outfit with texture - a chunky cable knit and flowy asymmetrical skirt.

I also think layering winter white, is a great excuse to introduce bold, statement accessories - think different prints and colours. Today I've opted for classic leopard heels.

WINTER WARMERS

This season, I’m all about neutral tones – steering clear of classic black. I think there is something timeless and elegant about winter whites, and a classic camel coat is the perfect accompaniment to any winter wardrobe.

Winter wear for me is all about experimenting with different fabrics and silhouettes to create a really strong-layered look.

Try layering cabled knitwear - with textures like wool, denim and leather to create the perfect look for any occasion – casual or formal. For a bold, fashion forward look, experiment with layering the same or similar colours, like this white cable knit and white skirt.

To me, lace is always so classic and a timeless addition to any wardrobe.

Ordinarily, I'm drawn to white lace, but for something different (and a bit more winter-friendly), I opted for a black version of this striking jumpsuit. I think the plunging neckline adds a perfect modern twist.

TREND ALERT | NORMCORE

So what is the 'normcore' trend really all about anyway?...

For my next instalment of Westfield AW15 #FashionObsessions, I'm sharing one of my favourite trends of the moment - normcore.

Think boy meets girl - unisex, casual dressing at its finest.

For me, to embrace this trend I opt for my favourite pair of jeans, a classic white tee and some trainers - a street-style must.

Such a simple trend to recreate yourself, comfortable and so easy to wear.

MBFWA WRAP UP

Four days, four new outfits…welcome to my MBFWA.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending MBFWA! Here is a wrap up of my fashion week wardrobe.

DAY 1 - STRIPE ON STRIPE
To kick off fashion week, I opted for a bold and colourful look. I took these incredible striped separates from Aussie label MacGraw and complimented them with key bold accessories. This green Furla clutch and a pop of lip colour with my new beauty must have Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Shine in 'Surreal Sun'.

DAY 2 - ALL BLUE EVERYTHING
Back in colour for day two but this time I stuck to some OTT baby blue. To break up the block colour, I opted for my favourite Givenchy floral clutch, nude sandals and a soft pink lip created with Envy Shine in 'Charmed'.

DAY 3 - 70s REVIVAL

It's all about 70s style on the runway and street style is no exception. For day three, I managed to track down these incredible Shakuhachi flares (my new wardrobe staple) as my outfit starting point. I completed my inner-70s-child by layering some more stripes, these electric blue shades and of course a strong bold lip colour - this time my choice was Envy Shine in 'Empowered'.

DAY 4 - CROP IT
For my final fashion week outfit - I thought I'd have a bit of fun contrasting prints and patterns. I love to mix, match and clash! So I styled this Clover Canyon neo-prene crop, with this stripe skort. I decided to keep my accessories to a minimum for this look, with Classic Chanel and a nude lip (Envy Shine - 'Discreet') for the perfect finishing touches.

And there you have it - my fashion week wardrobe all wrapped up!
Which was your favourite look?

When I was last in New York, during Fashion Week, I met two incredibly beautiful and talented people, Iyan Difuntorum (one of the best stylists I've been fortunate enough to meet) and Jessie Obialor (a fantastic photographer).

We met on a New York rooftop - the Empire for memory, and instantly hit it off.

It wasn't long into our meeting that we decided to team up to shoot around the inspiring city streets of New York.

Here is the first instalment of our collaboration.

A short while ago, while tumbling around instagram, I came across this beautiful mesh ball dress, by graduate Sydney designer, Georgia Annabelle.

This backless dress, is definitely head-turner, and was the perfect outfit option for the Melbourne Fashion Festival closing event celebration.

Keep an eye on this up and comer.

KHAKI LOVER

Trend alert - Military is in...

This season I've teamed up with Westfield to share some of my AW15 #FashionObsessions

Military is the first of my favourite trends.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Khaki as the colour of the season, which I see as the perfect colour compliment to classic black and white.

Teamed back with statement boots, I plan to transform this look further, as the weather cools by styling with a black fitted turtle-neck and tights.

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND

Introducing my newest accessory...

Keepsake lace romperGivenchy clutchby jasmin jewellery

Say hello to my little friend, my new Fiat 500 convertible.

For the better part of last year, I was abroad, travelling, so It has been so lovely to kick off the new year, with some rest and relaxation, settled back home in Melbourne.

Because I'm often away, I've missed having my own car, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to test out this new beauty.

It is the perfect city run-around for me, dashing between shoots and appointments, and doubles as a fun and ultra-stylish fashion accessory. The Fiat definitely turns heads.

Can't wait to road-trip down the coast this weekend, with the roof down, and fresh air through my hair.

STREET STYLE | TRAVEL ESSENTIALS

As a fashion and travel blogger, style and technology go hand in hand.

When packing for a trip, I'm drawn to quality pieces that not only look great, but will also stand the test of time.

Here are a few of my travel essentials.

STYLE ESSENTIALS

+ Comfy shoes - for all travel and transit well worn in flats are essential. At the moment, my Valentino rockstuds are on high rotation. Once I hit the street, a pair of classic black pumps take-over.

+ Travel bag - a great small cross body bag is another essential of mine. Chanel is my everyday go-to. I love a cross-body style when travelling because it is a more secure option and it also leaves your hands free for signing documents, handling cash, or importantly taking that perfect photo.

+ Sunglasses - a classic oversized style is a saviour after a 16hr flight, especially when your eyes are a little worse for wear. Prada cat eyes are my style of choice.

TECHNOLOGY ESSENTIALS

+ Quality headphones - these are a MUST for all flights and will not only help you enjoy your inflight entertainment in style, but they are essential for blocking out additional cabin noise.

BOSE are my go-to headphones every time, I love their styling - they are sleek and compact (great space-savers when packing) AND best of all they are bluetooth compatible, which means I don't have to rely on cords or cables.

+ Laptop & Camera - I don't travel anywhere (even for a day), without my laptop and camera. I always shoot on a Nikon, and rotate between my DSLR and compact cameras depending on my destination and how long I'm away for.

+ Portable speaker - This BOSE SoundLink portable speaker is the newest addition to my carry on and I am in love! It's small and compact, which is extremely practical for travel, and, as with the headphones, these also operate via bluetooth.

I love that I can now take my tunes down to the beach or pool and the sound is absolutely incredible - perfect for an impromptu summer beach party.

What are your travel essentials?

I'm wearing: Bose headphones, Zara knit, Seven For All Mankind jeans, Jimmy Choo pumps, Chanel wallet on chain

Summer is oh so close here in Melbourne, which means it's time to pack away the coats and make the transition across to a summer wardrobe (my favourite).

Summer dressing to me is all about ease and simplicity, which sees me largely drawn to white sundresses, oversized tanks, and of course playsuits.

This is my newest wardrobe addition and drew me in with the gorgeous contrast crochet detailing.

I'm completely and utterly obsessed with all things crochet and broderie, something that just screams summer to me.

Finding a great pair of jeans can sometime feel like searching for a diamond in the rough.

For me, this oversized style is perfect for a causal look - and I'm especially loving the 90s denim wash.

The masculine style is a nice contrast to this feminine, summer ready crop don't you think?
